Aviator Shorts

Coachella is on our bucket list and though we didn't get to check it off this year, we put together an outfit for the occasion. We love the lace details on this kimono paired with black shorts and aviators. You can also throw it on over a summer dress or romper. See more.

Preppy Pretty

While we never followed "Gossip Girl" regularly, we loved Blair Waldorf's style on the show. Flirty skirts paired with blouses and paper thin cardigans seem made for each other like roses and chocolate. This look works for school or when you just want to feel preppy pretty. See more.

Pastel Candy

Pastels can be tricky-wearing the wrong shade can wash you out and make you look tired. It's best to start with a shade that looks good on you and using a muted version of that. We love this soft mint green dress with shoulder cutouts and this beige dress with beaded detailing around the shoulder. It's the small things that truly make something special. See more.

Bohemian White

White lace makes this skirt effortlessly bohemian. We love the carefree look a garland adds to this outfit. See more.

Purple & Plaid

There's something about plaid that's preppy yet versatile. It works as a shirt, skirt, or coat. We love this pretty muted gray and black plaid coat. We paired it with a purple newsboy hat for a feminine yet classic look. See more.

Asian Style Tacos
by Esther

Grace and I are obsessed with kogi tacos. These Korean style bbq tacos were made popular by Chef Roy Choi. They combine savory short ribs with spicy salsa roja, cilantro, onion, lime relish, and are topped with a chili-soy vinaigrette. I made my own kogi tacos at home with soy protein for a quick yet tasty meal. See more.

Pink Wonderland

Since we don't get to experience a traditional snowy winter in our area, we took a trip with friends to Big Bear Lake. The evergreen trees and glistening snow peaks reminded us of a winter wonderland. We decided to celebrate the natural beauty around us with shades of pink. See more.

Makeup Organization 101
by Esther

I organize and re-organize stuff all the time-including my makeup. When I had less space in college (dorm room was the size of a closet that fit 3 people), I crammed everything into box. Now that I have more space, I experiment with different ways to keep everything organized. See more.

Redefine Motivation
by Esther

Journaling has been a part of my daily ritual since college. I've found that writing down my thoughts clarifies, resolves, and calms the mind, especially during difficult times. Today, I'm sharing my thoughts on this journal topic posted on Sometimes Sweet: "What would you say is your biggest motivation in life? Has it always been this way?"

Making my parents proud has always been my biggest motivation. When I was two years old and Grace was two weeks old, our parents left Korea and immigrated to Scotland with a mere 500 pounds which is a little less than $250 today. My father wanted to study English and pursue his studies in theology with the long term plan to open his own church someday. When my father shared his decision with his family, they urged him to reconsider. They told him it was too risky to move his young wife and family somewhere new and start over with nothing. The only one who listened was his uncle who pulled him aside and gave him the money to pay for our airfare. He told my dad to chase his dream. See more.

Beauty in the Ordinary
by Esther

On my first trip to Italy, my husband took me to Dozza, a town known for its beautiful murals. Every two years, Dozza invites renowned artists to paint on the walls of houses there. Walking through the town was surreal, like walking inside a beautiful painting come to life. Each painted wall felt like getting glimpses into the artist's soul, their dreams, and innermost thoughts. Looking at these works of art reminds me to see the beauty in the ordinary. See more.

Cleansing Essentials
by Esther

When I was in college, I didn't have a skincare routine. Living in the dorms meant staying up all night talking with friends or cramming for finals. Sometimes that also meant falling asleep without washing off my makeup. As I got older, I realized that my skin needed some TLC. Now, I know that a skincare routine can be simple yet effective. See more.

Mini Cupcakes & Homemade Frosting
by Esther

Frosting is one of my favorite desserts. Yes, I know it's just a topping but it's the superstar of dessert toppings-especially when it comes to cupcakes. This weekend, I made my own using this recipe. This buttercream version is sweet, creamy, and salty. Although frosting is mainly sugar and butter, I still feel better making a homemade batch than buying the store variety that includes artificial ingredients. Juicy raspberries and blueberries add natural sweetness to this dessert. See more.

DIY Pink Party Favors

Last summer, I hosted a dessert party and found this cute party favor kit. The kit included lollipops, stickers, and ribbons. I added a personal touch by placing them in a pretty blue vase. These were the perfect giveaway for my party but can also work for bridal showers, baby showers, or any other type of girly get-together. See more.

Redefine Eating Well
by Esther

Before I got married, I rarely cooked for myself. I usually picked up food and suffice to say, that wasn't really good for my health or my wallet. Now that I have another person to feed, I've taken small culinary steps to kitchen success with simple yet tasty recipes. Inspired by the fresh ripe lemons in our backyard, I tried a simple pasta recipe that uses a balance of healthy vegetables and sweet sausages. See more.

We love trends from the past like the simple shift dress. A throwback to the 1960s, shift dresses from the mod era still look chic and relevant today. Pair it with a tailored blazer for work or a jeweled statement necklace for happy hour. It's the perfect blank canvas for multiple looks. See more.

Redefine Goals
by Esther
The summer before my 24th birthday was magical. It was the summer I truly lived by the words of Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs: "Stay hungry. Stay foolish." I had just left my first job post grad school and was happy to be free from what had started to feel like a mental prison for me. I felt that hunger to experience everything that I had been too afraid to try because I didn't want to try it alone or was afraid of what people would think of me. Like going on my first hot air balloon ride. Or booking a wine country biking tour through Yountville. Or watching my very first live Broadway show. Being stuck in a 9-5 job I hated was the catalyst I needed to really feel every moment and chase new experiences rather than run away from them. See more.

Redefine Stereotypes
by Esther
A few weekends ago, I was watching one of my favorite shows, "Millionaire Matchmaker." Its mix of psuedo-psycho analysis and humor draws me in every time as Patti Stanger plays love doctor to her single clients and prescribes a dating solution for them.

Watching this episode however was frustrating. One of the clients was an Asian-American doctor who specialized in lasik surgery. The episode painted him as a desperate man on a mission to find a wife and mother for his future children.

Now, it's not like the show never features weirdos or socially awkward geeks. They usually depict these type of clients for the sake of entertainment. What bothered me was that this was the first Asian-American client featured on the show and he "fit" the mold of the nerdy Asian-American guy who doesn't get the girl. To make things worse, the other client was a nice "normal" guy (not Asian-American) who seemed to have everything this guy lacked. There are plenty of attractive and successful Asian-American guys who are socially adept but the show chose not to depict one of them. See more.

Retro Dots

When we were kids, we had matching polka dot tanks and shorts that we wore all the time. Something about their playful simplicity is familiar yet fresh, adding whimsy to any outfit. We still love our polka dots, especially on dresses with peter pan collars paired with simple accessories like a headband. See more.

Scarlet Moment

We love movie makeovers and the best ones usually feature scarlet dresses. Topping our list is Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman" when she emerged in a silk floor-length gown. It was the ultimate Cinderella moment. A boring black dress just wouldn't have had the same effect. Running down the Louvre in "Funny Face," Audrey Hepburn's ruby red Givenchy was one of the most stunning fashion moments in film history. Amazing scarlet moments say "I've arrived" and capture the beauty and confidence of being a girl. See more.

The Crazy Ex
 by Esther
Katie is mutual friend of ours. Recently, her boyfriend of six months broke up with her using this recycled garbage: "I just need some space right now. I'm confused. I'm not sure what I want. I still care about you . . . but I need some time to think." She was completely blindsided. See more.

Kimonos In Bloom

Some days, we just want to throw on something airy and colorful over our jeans or shorts rather than a dark heavy coat. These kimonos feel like an outdoor version of an indoor robe, making us feel covered but still feminine. Toss this on for errands or a first date. See more.

Fashion Guys Hate

Betsey Johnson once said, "Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and of course each other. If girls dressed for boys, they'd walk around naked at all times." See more.

Night Lights

Passing by this restaurant, we noticed the golden lights flickering inside looked like fireflies dancing in the light. They reminded us of the fireflies we used to chase after when we lived on the East Coast. It was our favorite pastime - running after the glowing insects on warm summer evenings. Their mysterious light was like magic for us as we tried to hold onto that feeling that we could capture the unreal. See more.

Redefine Moments
by Esther

There are days when I feel as though I'm seeing the world in black and white rather than in color. Those are days when I know I need to redefine the moment using my imagination, just as I did as a child. This photo by Katie Sokoler captures that imaginative quality as she creates whimsical beauty from something ordinary.

by Esther

I found this beautiful post by Duane Michals titled "This photograph is my proof." The scrawls below the image read: "There was that afternoon when things were still good between us, and she embraced me. And we were so happy. It did happen. She did love me. Look, see for yourself!" His post inspired me to look back on my own favorite moment. See more.

The little black dress is a staple in every girl's wardrobe. Slipping on our favorite LBD makes us feel effortlessly chic like Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast At Tiffany's." We also have a few other black essentials that never fail us: The little black sweater, the little black shoes, and the little black bag. See more.

Layering

Layering various textures is an art. The different elements meld together to form something that makes sense. We love the layered look of a crisp white blazer, simply cut shirt, and fitted denim. The white washed brick wall and splash of bold red enhance the effect. See more.

"Sex and the City" recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. We remember watching our first episode and laughing at the candor, witty banter, and expressions on the characters' faces. More than the glamour and high-end fashion though, we loved the friendships the show celebrated and the fact that these women navigated their dating life in style - one brunch at a time. Below are articles that pay homage to the iconic show.

Pink Spring

With March just a week away, the balmy weather reminds us that spring is almost here. Spring brings us some of our favorite things: Longer afternoons, pretty pink petals strewn on the grass, and breezy strolls through the park. We donned pink dresses and bows to toast the start of this romantic season. See more.

Sunset Train

Golden hazy sunsets are the best time of day. This afternoon, we decided to enjoy the sunlit glow by the local train station. Watching the trains rush forward, we could feel the past moving by as we stood still capturing the moment. See more.
